There will be a discussion on the amount of oil spills at the Lautoka Bus Station after concerns were raised by the Lautoka Ratepayers Association.

The Lautoka Town Council and the Ratepayers Association together with the Land Transport Authority and the bus operators will hold talks in Lautoka.

Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra said this matter needed to be looked into.

“The idea is to discuss the oil spillage at the bus stand and try to minimise the risk and problems associated with it.

“Particularly the safety and wellbeing of the traveling public that use the bus stand,” Mr Nakauvadara said.

“This is basically because of some of the bus companies have been operating buses that are not properly serviced.

“When you go to the Lautoka Bus Stand, you can see a lot of oil spills. It is not safe and good for the environment and for the public to be exposed to.”

He encourages all bus companies to upgrade their buses and improve on their services.

“We need to involve all the stakeholders in this open-door meeting and see how we can come up with solutions,” he said.

Mr Nakauvadra hopes they can come up with a solution and stop the problem completely.

He said they wanted to provide a clean and safe bus stand for the public in Lautoka.
