The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has treated this case as a tragic case of suicide and not as rape and murder by three men.

Bail Denied for Murder Accused

The High Court in Suva on Wednesday refused to grant bail to Usaia Kilaiverata.

Kilaiverata, 28, is charged with the murder of his partner and former journalist, Losana McGowan.

He appeared before High Court judge Justice Priyantha Fernando where his second bail application was denied.

Reasons for the refusal included because he has two children and previous partner living in New Zealand.

McGowan died after sustaining injuries to her head in an alleged dispute at the couple’s flat in Toorak in April this year.

The case will be recalled on August 24 for pre-trial conference and voir dire ground submissions.

Kilaiverata has been further remanded in custody.
