Same difference

Dr Raymond Chandra, Vancouver, Canada

The difference is the same between a teacher and a salesman. The salesman has something to sell to his customers and the teacher has something to sell to his students. Both have to have a good sales pitch and to be quite persuasive because people buy only what they like.

Neither the salesman nor the teacher can sell anything if there are no interested buyers.

A good salesman tries to find ways to capture the interest of his customers in a friendly manner and a good teacher tries to find ways to capture the interest of his or her students.

Felix Anthony

Sukha Singh, Labasa

I would just like to congratulate Felix Anthony on being elected as the president of International Trade Union Asia Pacific.

Not long ago he was rejected at the polls in Fiji .

Good luck

Wise Muavono, Lautoka

Good luck and all the best to the three Marist teams (U14, 15, 18) taking part in the Deans semifinals.

May the U18 retain their unbeaten record since the U14 grade. Modest in victory Gracious in defeat. Toso damudamu.

Australian Speaker

Amenatave Yaconisau, Delainavesi

The resignation of the Australian Speaker of Parliment  shows the great power of the people.

Very real great power indeed.  Though the ‘joy trip’ was well within her entitlement  public pressure on her has made it look like a corrupt behaviour  and abuse..

She should not apologise for the truth, or a honest mistake.  Money repaid in full is good enough.

Good lesson for our elected representatives.

Are the local and overseeas trip  in-built into their salary or an add-on to public expenditure (tax payers)?

Drug shortage

Dewan Chand, Suva

According to media reports, the Assistant Minister of Health, Honourable Veena Bhatnagar has been quoted as saying that there is no shortage of drugs in hospitals and health centres.

Further, she has been quoted as saying that this is the figment of imagination of people who want to create stories of shortages. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I respectfully wish to disagree with the Honourable Assistant Minister of Health.

She is blissfully ignorant of the realities on the ground. I am a regular visitor to CWM Hospital and know for sure that there is always shortage of one drug or the other. The Honourable Assistant Minister can carry out a simple survey amongst the patients who visit health centres and hospitals and guage for herself the truth of the matter.

Many a times patients have been forced to buy drugs from the private pharmacies at astronomical prices.

We fully appreciate the great progress made in the provision of good health services to the people of Fiji by the Government.

But there are serious areas of concern and these must be attended to rather than being swept under the carpet.

70th week

Lawrence Narayan, Suva

Daniel’s 70th week has led many people like Brother Savenaca Vaka to think we are now living in the prophesied kingdom or that the numbers in the Bible cannot be literal.

The 70 weeks of prophecy is an outline of God’s programme for the nation of Israel from the time of Nehemiah in the month of Nisan of the 20th year of the Persian King Artaxerxes (445Bc) to the time of Israel’s blessing in Christ’s millennium kingdom following His second coming – Daniel 9:24-27.

Seventy weeks (Hebrew language) or 490 years were determined upon thy people (Israelites) to do six things;

– Finish the transgression

– Make an end of sins

– Make reconciliation for iniquity

– Bring in everlasting righteousness

– Seal up the vision and prophecy

– Anoint the most holy (place)

The 69th week occurred on 06th April AD 32 when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a colt, the foal of an ass in fulfillment of Zechariah’s prophecy – Zech 9:9.

But the six things of the 70th week are yet to accomplished so naturally it is a future event.

The interval between the 69th and 70th week is a gap of almost 2000 years since AD 32 to the present time.

In other words, for the past two thousand years, the church in its mystery form has been living in the dispensation of God’s grace without interfering with any of Israel’s prophecies –
