A delegation from the Hubei Province in China visited the Lautoka Zhonghua School on Tuesday.

Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Zhang Ping was also part of the delegation at the school meet, and joined by the Commissioner Western Manasa Tagicakibau.

There are plans for this school to be a sister school to the primary school of the Huhan Fruit Lake in Hubei.

This will mean that it would be possible for Fijian students and teachers to travel to China to learn about their education system and culture.

School management representative Henry Seeto said: “This will greatly enhance the co-operation and relationship between our two countries.”

During this visit, the Hubei Provincial Department of Education donated 10 Lenovo brand thinkpad laptops, and story books.

Ambassador Mr Ping said: “Hubei and Fiji have a long history of friendship as our President visited Fiji and reached an agreement to establish the overall strategic partnership.

“In this new era, we need more Chinese to know the Fijian culture and to speak the Fijian language and the Fijian to know the Chinese culture and language.

“I believe that the Lautoka Chinese Zhonghua School will nurture more students to promote the friendship and development of China and Fiji.”

Divisional Education Officer Albert Wise said: “These items will help in the education of the students who will be the future leaders of our country.

“Our country is a developing nation and the assistance from your province and your country is very much appreciated”

Hubei Province Director for Education Liu Chuan Tie said: “It is our common desire to strengthen our educational exchanges.”

Mr Wise said there was a strong co-operation developing between the Western Division and the Hubei province in China.”

The school has successfully started its Chinese classes for the students.
