Students should learn to use the school bus, said Fiji Bus Operators Association (FBOA) senior vice president Richard Lal.

He made the comments following complaints by some parents who claimed that buses which run beyond school hours refused to carry students.

“This is one of the arrangements that we made with the Ministry of Education in order ensure that children are dropped off right in front of their school compound,” Mr Lal said.

“A lot of students who are seen loitering in town during school hours are those who do not use the school buses.”

He said normal route buses pick students in areas where which did not have school buses.

“Parents should be encouraged to have their children board the school bus because it is safer and reliable as they are dropped off right on their school compound and not in town,” he said.
