Outspoken MP Mosese Bulitavu has questioned the SODELPA Opposition budget for next year.

In an email to the Opposition Office, he said he had opposed the more than $500,000 budget presented to the Secretary-General of Parliament because no proper mandate was given by the caucus.

He said: “Crucial questions, for example, on justifications about job descriptions, who are the staff and their salaries, had not been resolved.”

“The amount being given by Government of $225,000 is not sufficient for the over $500,000 budget the Office requested during that proposal.

“Where would the balance of this operational budget come from? These were valid questions that had to be resolved as it forms the basis of our concerns as MPs and our ability to facilitate our work in serving our electorates sufficiently.

He questioned the mandate they used to present that budget to the S-G.

“Why were the rest of us MPs not given our responses to the queries that had remained? Have the posts been advertised like FijiFirst did.

“This is very concerning. Again it depicts that MP’s are used only to rubber stamp the issues,” he said.

“I am not agreeing to that budget proposal because the Opposition Office has not come out clean with the actuals. Mick Beddoes and the Opposition Office did not include the actual expenditure and revenue for 2015 that was generated from the public funds that has surfaced from the Gaunavinaka Report.

“This is the kind of dealings that undermines the right of every Member of Parliament to be consulted. This nature of bad leadership must be removed from the party. This is the reason why I ask the Opposition Leader to resign. She has to be taught that a political party in a democracy does not operate in this manner.”

Questions sent to the Opposition Office had not been answered when this edition went  to press last night.
