Mereoni (Oni) Kirwin, an Australian- based iTaukei woman who is alleged to be one of those behind the sedition-related cases, has not been charged yet.

Commissioner of Police Ben Groenewald confirmed this saying they were looking at options as investigation continues.

“We are keeping in mind that she is residing in Australia and so we cannot charge her now,” Mr Groenewald said.

“She is being implicated and is part of this whole ongoing sedition investigation.

“I cannot comment on the status of the investigation right now as the Fiji Police Force Chief of Investigation and Intelligence ACP Henry Brown is still carrying out the investigation,” he said.

“As for now I can confirm that Police are investigating the case and it would take a while.’

Ms Kirwin is alleged to be involved in attempts to form so-called Christian states in Ra and Nadroga.

In connection with this the Fiji Police Force have been carrying out investigation on the three sedition-related cases.

“The first 17 Ra people including three chiefs were arrested and charged for one count of sedition,” the Commissioner said.

He confirmed that one of the other Ra chiefs that was allegedly involved had recently passed away.

“The second investigation is where another lot of 17 people were arrested and charged for sedition from Nadroga. And the third is where 43 so-called military rebels from Ra were arrested and charged,” he said.

Mr Groenewald was in Labasa for a two-day official visit where he yesterday opened the Fiji Police Force Wives National Volleyball and Netball Tournament at Holy Family Primary School ground in Labasa.

Later he visited some Police stations and posts in the rural areas in Vanua Levu to discuss issues of concern with Police officers.
