The launch of a Hindi poetry book on Wednesday was a way young people can be educated about their ancestors and their history, says Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy.

Mr Reddy made the comments while launching the Hindi poetry book, Gudgudi, written by aspiring Hindi poet Jainan Prasad at the Defence Club in Suva.

He said there were various mediums available to enhance one’s knowledge and the launch of the book was one of the ways young people of today could increase their knowledge.

“And to gain knowledge there are a lot of medium for example the movies we make; which increase our knowledge and it will show people of current, past and future generations. There are books, text books, story books, poems, newspaper articles and there are a lot of other types of medium through which we increase our knowledge,” Mr Reddy said.

He also encouraged young people to write about their experiences as Fiji was only a small country.

“The new generations through knowledge should know their identity and should know about their ancestors and about their life and what type of society they had during their time; we should write about all this.”

Meanwhile Hindi poet Mr Prasad has previously published two poetry books, Gurudaksina and Janam, Ek Ehaas.

He said his new book was about his emotions where he wanted people to experience laughter in their lives through reading it.
