A school in the Western Division is not sitting idle waiting for Government to help educate children in its community.

Instead Toko Sanatan Primary School management in Tavua is working on fundraising events to complement Government’s assistance to boost the education of their students.

Today will see the end of a four-day carnival hosted by the school to fundraise for a new multipurpose hall.

Their recent project was a computer laboratory, which will see the start of computer lessons from next week – Term Three.

School manager Dhiren Singh said the carnival started on Wednesday.

“The purpose for the carnival is to get enough money to build a school multipurpose hall,” he said.

“Since Government is helping us in other areas, we feel obligated to fundraise for a hall of our own and it will be a three-year project.”

The school has a roll of 562 and the hall will help in students’ activities and events and could be used by surrounding communities.

The carnival meanwhile, has four queen contestants representing various communities in Tavua.

They are Miss Toko Nishi Nitisha, Miss Nasomo Meri Litia, Miss Loloma/Maingate and Low Cost Lusiana Tovilo and Miss Nasivi and Lomalagi, Inivala Cavuilagi.

The school is located between Tavua and Vatukoula.

“We are aiming to raise about $18,000 to $20,000 for the hall and we are glad that the computer lab will open in Term Three,” he said.

“We are inviting people to help us because our target is to assist the children and our communities,” he said.
