Local journalists have hailed the late Gabriel Singh as one of the most exceptional sports journalist in Fiji’s media industry.

Journalist and former Fiji Times Editor, Netani Rika, made this comment during the wake ceremony of the late Mr Singh at the Royal Suva Yacht Club yesterday.

Mr Singh was cremated at Dignified cremations in Davuilevu, Nakasi. Mr Singh died on August 19 while being the Associate Editor for The National newspaper in Papua New Guinea.

Mr Rika said Mr Singh was one who led by example.

“He demanded the highest quality of writing from all of us. When I joined the Fiji Times in 1988, Gabriel was already there probably seven years or so,” he said.

Mr Singh was a former sports journalist and Chief Sub-Editor at the Fiji Times, the Fiji Sun and also the then Daily Post. His younger brother, Raphael Singh described Mr Singh as one who had a passion for what he loved.

“He was simply larger than Life. He was the most talented journalist. Gabriel had attitudes but he knew what he was doing,” he said.

“There’s one thing to love your work and the other thing was to love your work and have a passion for it. That’s something not everyone have. He is a very ethical writer.”
