Villagers of Bua Lomanikoro in Vanua Levu are facing difficulties in travelling to Savusavu and Labasa.

The bridge leading to their village is   damaged. Vehicles cannot cross.

Villagers and children now travel in a punt to cross the river and continue by vehicle to reach town and schools.

Village headman Waisea Rabutakoli said the bridge was damaged three months ago.

“Students are mostly affected because they travel daily to school,” Mr Rabutakoli said.

Villagers use the bridge to travel to Labasa, Savusavu, Dreketi or Nabouwalu.

“Most of the villagers are market vendors and they need a bridge to transport their produce to the Nabouwalu or Labasa Market.”

Mr Rabutakoli is pleading with Government to repair the bridge.

Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy inspected the bridge before visiting Naikavaki College last week.

Mr Reddy said his ministry would provide transport for students from the village to their schools.

“I will try and take this up to Government authorities so that they can come and inspect the bridge,” Mr Reddy said.
