A youth group in the West is pleading with the public not to fall prey to the agendas of the so-called rebel groups who were allegedly trying to form a movement.

Former Yellow Ribbon programme now youth group president of Proving Young Generation Movement In Every Society (PYGMIES), Josateki Labalaba, 42, believes people should not be rebelling against the Government.

“After all this Government has done for us, and all this people brainwashing our youths and old should be taken to task,” he said.

“If they don’t agree with the Government then they should wait for the next elections, not childishly causing unnecessary trouble like this.”

He commended the Bainimarama Government for giving him and others alike a second chance in life.

“I was in prison during the 2000 coup and saw all that had happened while I was detained at the Maximum Prison in Suva,” he said.

“When I came out I decided that I didn’t want people my age or younger staging something like what had happened that year ,and through the yellow ribbon program I was given a job and a new life .”

Mr Labalaba said the 35-member group were working towards getting a permit for a march to send a message to the so-called rebel groups.

“Hopefully we can get a permit for the march by Thursday so that we can march on Friday, to drive the message out there that we support the Government,” he said.

“We also want to send out a message that those spreading negative news from overseas should take a look at the recent developments carried out by Government.”

Mr Labalaba said the group’s allegiance to the Government remained firm.

“We don’t want such things happening in our country and taking us backwards, when the prime minister is taking us forward,” he said.

“It is our hope that those following these groups will come to their senses before the Fijian people suffer more.”

He said the public will eventually face the consequences of those controlling the so-called rebel groups.
