The Reserve Bank of Fiji believes agriculture is a potential market which needs to be tapped into.

Advisor to the Governor of the RBF Lorraine Seeto said Agriculture is the backbone of the economy and it has a lot of linkages and provides employment.

She said: “I think a lot of youth today who don’t see agriculture as a career because most of them would rather have a job in the office. But not all of us can have a job in the office.

“So there are different careers we can take and I think Government has given a lot of scholarship and incentives for the agricultural sector. I think people should make use of the opportunity and give it a go.”

Agriculture Show

RBF has a stall at the three-day 2015 Central Division Agriculture Show which is being held at the Syria Park in Nausori.

Ms Seeto said RBF has been a sponsor of this agricultural event for many years and they always sponsor the prizes.

She added: “This is our way to show our support of what is happening in the community. We also make it our priority to give back to the community as well.”

RBF Stall

The RBF stall is showing the process of what is happening at the banks.

Ms Seeto explained when the income is generated from the farmers, the cycle of spending occurs. This is where the RBF steps in and that is what is displayed at the stalls.

“We have our shredded notes to show the students what happens with the notes which are not used in the country,” she said.

“We also have a presentation of what we do in the banks; we also have our publications here as well.”

She added people might be thinking what the Reserve Bank of Fiji is doing here but they seem to be a very popular booth with the school students coming through.

Ms Seeto added: “We are very happy to be here over the next three days. We also look forward to seeing more children and educate them as to what we do in the bank.”
