Be Tougher On Student Attackers: Principals

Lawmakers need to serve harsher penalties towards those who attack students, says the Fiji Principals Association (FPA).

FPA president Anita Gounder made the statement after the alleged murder of a Year 10 student of Penang Sangam College at Naria, Rakiraki, on Wednesday afternoon.

It is alleged the student was attacked by a sugarcane cutter on Wednesday.

“It is very sad for everybody for the parents, teachers and the nation as well,” she said.

“We are all grieving because an innocent life is lost. There is a need for harsher penalties,” she said.

Ba Provincial Freebird Institute principal Meli Tora said there was a need for consistent policing and awareness.

“The laws enforcers need to be vigilant and be committed. When there is nothing happening they get aloof so the consistency is not there,” he said.
