Nausori Market vendors yesterday praised the Bainimarama Government for answering their prayers of having a new and bigger market.

Rewa Market Vendors Association (RMVA) secretary Farukh Khan thanked Government for helping them.

“We have always complained to the municipal council of the state of the market because it was always leaking and we had to use tarpaulins to prevent us and our produce from getting wet,” Mr Khan said.

“A few years ago they told us that plans for a new market were in the pipeline and we were very happy. We used to just make do with what we have because that is our main source of income.

“Today we are more than happy, especially to the Government of the day. We can say that we have achieved a lot from this Government compared to previous governments. They have also repaired our roads making it more accessible for many of us who come from farming communities around Nausori.”

He commended the Bainimarama Government for continuing to change the lives of many Fijians through developments around the country, especially in improving infrastructures.

“Previous governments were slow in carrying out developments. This is one thing that this Government has changed and we are very grateful to them,” Mr Khan said.

Meanwhile, Minister for Local Government, Environment and Housing Parveen Kumar revealed yesterday that the construction of an accommodation for women vendors would start soon at the new market complex.

Mr Khan said this would assist women vendors from Naitasiri, Tailevu and Rewa who sell at the market.

The new market consists of 1600 stalls, a butcher, a fish and crab market and canteens.
