Kiwanis International is an organisation that focuses on the cause of serving children, one child and one community at a time.

Last Saturday, the Kiwanis International Fiji Chapter was launched at the Novotel Hotel in Lami.

Trustee of Kiwanis International Marcel Kreienbühl said the Kiwanis international focuses on young children.

“Kiwanis clubs, is located around 80 nations, they  help their communities in countless ways,” Mr Kreienbühl said.

“Each community’s needs are different this means that each Kiwanis club is different. By working together, members achieve what one person cannot accomplish alone. When you give a child the chance to learn, experience, dream, grow, succeed and thrive, great things can be achieved and it will assist in the growth of any country.

Mr Kreienbühl said they now have 23 Kiwani club members in Suva and 17 in Nadi.

President of Kiwanis Suva Club,Ulamila Tuituku said their signature project for the coming year would be an Urban Farming Initiative targeted at selected primary schools in the Suva metropolitan area.

“We want to teach our children to plant their own food, to consider organic grown foods and choose healthier lifestyles for themselves,”Mrs Tuituku said.

“We are excited that we have farmers who are willing to partner with us; in creating these urban farms and we look to the Government of the day to assist us in this intiative,”she said.

Kiwanis International is an international, coeducational service club founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan. It is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States.
