Government Assures To Finalise Tourism Development Plan

Government has stressed it is dedicated to the finalisation of the five-year Fijian Tourism Development Plan.

The plan will encompass amongst other strategies, key strategies on development of cruise tourism.

Permanent Secretary for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Shaheen Ali, made these comments yesterday.

Mr Ali was speaking as he opened the Pacific Cruise Tourism Development Strategy 2015-2019 consultation workshop at the Tanoa Hotel Plaza in Suva.

He said this has come about given the Fijian Government recognising the importance of the cruise sector and the overall tourism sector.

“This plan that will ensure that all tourism-related agencies and other Governmental arms work together to achieve a $2 billion dollar industry, through the most sustainable development means,” he said.

“Therefore, once the regional strategy is finalised, we see it forming a part of the Fijian Tourism Development Plan.”

 

Provisional Official tourism statistics

  • Visitor arrivals until July increased by nine per cent to 415,011 compared to the same period in 2014.
  • Earnings for the first half of the year also increased by 12.2 per cent to $377.8million compared to 2014.
