Outspoken MP and lawyer Mosese Bulitavu yesterday criticised Mick Beddoes over his Facebook comments about the party’s annual general meeting.

Mr Bulitavu said Mr Beddoes had completely disregarded  the authority of Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, SODELPA’s president.

He is the second person from SODELPA to respond to Mr Beddoes. The first was Sainiana Radrodro, the party’s former  communications manager, who said Mr Beddoes had no mandate.

Mr Beddoes questioned the integrity of the meeting on his Facebook page.

The party’s principal administrative officer claimed there was an “ambush” during the meeting which approved sweeping changes to the party’s constitution. He wanted the decision delayed so that members could study the proposed amendments to the constitution. But Ratu Naiqama rejected his request.

“There are always people who are also always resisting changes,” Mr Bulitavu said.

“The meeting has finished. We had a quorum and whatever was resolved in the meeting was recorded in the minutes of the meeting and whatever that is recorded will be submitted with the amended Constitution and presented to the Fijian Elections Office.

“The party is more stable and more focused now. The previous Constitution was only done to enable for registration and to meet the deadlines but it did not go through a proper consultation,” he said.

No response could be obtained from Ratu Naiqama last night.
