The Port Denarau Marina Waterfront is currently undergoing an extension to cater for the passengers using the marina as a hub.

Port Denarau Marina managing director, Nigel Skeggs, said: “Our plan with that is to tidy up the entire waterfront.

“We’ll have nice lighting and pathway around the waterfront with park benches and some nice trees for shade and just get people more attracted to the waterfront.”

Mr Skeggs said they recently surveyed the area which is roughly 1600 square metres.

He also revealed plans to include retail outlets as part of this extension.

“We are just finishing the feasibility of the project. Once we are ready, we will go out to market and see who’s interested in retail space,” he said.

M Skeggs confirmed the commencement of the extension started four weeks ago with sheet piling and compacting the top deposits.

“This all just about tidying up but also about giving some more room for buildings,” he said.

“We need to start building hopefully next year for our retail hotel development which we’ve released in the past.”

Check-in counters

Mr Skeggs said there is a big demand for more check-in counters around the front as with the passenger terminal, it’s basically full.

“What our goal has always been is to allow all our customers here a place where they can sell their tickets or be a meet and greet area for them so they have a physical presence here,” he said.
