FMF Foods Limited has been recipient of the Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year awards in various categories every year since 2004 missing out only two years during the time.

Its win again in the 2014 Westpac Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Awards as the Manufacturer of the Year stamped the company’s mark as a leading manufacturer.

Group Exports manager, Bimlesh Prasad, reflected on how the awards have helped the business grow over the years.

“Firstly, such wins always motivate staff and boost morale of our employees and the company as a group which proves that their hard work actual meant something,” he said.

“Our customers’ confidence in us improves because they know that it takes depth of company character to win such prestigious awards.

“This in turn helps us leverage our company image to export more and makes us more determined in our vision to be the Most Admired Company in the Region.

“It also improves investor confidence and helps us work towards improving infrastructure such as our factories, plant & machinery, etc.”

Advice to others

Mr Prasad’s advice to those wanting to apply is: “This is a great opportunity for those who want more exposure and recognition in the export arena.

“It also sets a benchmark for companies to compete against others in the same sector.

“Plus it paves a pathway for a business to take accountability for its environment, community and the “Fijian Made” brand.

“For the application itself, my advice would be to answer the questions in great detail touching on ALL aspects that make the company a good exporter and a good corporate citizen rather than merely focus on exports alone.

“I am sure the judges would be looking at a whole lot more than just export numbers.”

FMF Foods itself plans to apply once again this year and Mr Prasad said it would be good to win again.

In terms of exports, roughly 30 per cent of FMF Group’s overall turnover comes from exports.

Mr Prasad said in at least one of their subsidiary businesses, this was as high as 75 per cent.

“Currently we export to a total of 21 countries – all Pacific Island countries – USA, Hawaii, Canada, Federated States of Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand,” he said.

“We would like to further explore markets such as Guam and East Timor.”
