A skimming device was found on one of the Bank South Pacific’s ATM’s in Nadi, in an attempt to steal information.

The bank was quick to reassure customers that the discovery of the device, used by thieves to obtain personal financial information, was an isolated case.

It is understood that the device was attached to one of BSPs ATMs at Wailoaloa, Nadi, and was discovered last weekend.

The skimmers are fixed to the mouth of an ATM and secretly swipe credit and debit card information when bank customers slip their cards into the ATM to withdraw.

The skimming device has a pin-hole camera which focuses on the PIN pad to capture customer’s PIN numbers.

It’s understood that the device later fell off and was recovered by hotel staff and handed to the bank’s support staff.

BSP confirms retrieving an ATM skimming device from the Nadi.

The bank confirmed that it was an isolated case and they were conducting inquiries.

It assured customers that appropriate action would be taken.

BSP says all banks regularly inspected their ATMs for such devices.

“The security of our customers and other bank customers using our banking network is paramount and we have an ongoing process of checking ATMs for such devices,” the bank said in a statement.
