A minivan carrying 12 passengers veered off the road in Tuvu, Ba,   King’s Highway, and landed in a cane field yesterday morning.

The vehicle was driven by a 36-year-old who was taking passengers from Lautoka to Ba.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the incident saying: “The 36-year-old is alleged to have lost control of the vehicle and landed in a sugar cane field.”

She also confirmed that six of the passengers sustained minor injuries.

“Six of the passengers sustained injuries as well as the driver and they are admitted in a stable condition.”

Meanwhile a man sustained minor injuries after he swerved while trying to avoid hitting a horse that was crossing the road at Nabou in Nadi.

Ms Naisoro has urged animal owners to secure their animals away from the main highways to avoid such cases from occurring.

“This has also been a major cause of accidents in the past.”

Meanwhile Ms Naisoro said the driver had been treated and investigations continued.
