Agriculture production for people in Raviravi and Sawau, Beqa is expected to be boosted following assistance by government through the donation of new farming equipment.

Funded by the Commissioner Central’s office, the farming equipment is part of Government’s assistance to improve agricultural production on the island.

Acting Commissioner Central, Jone Bacau said Beqa was the only place in Fiji where tomatoes were always in season and therefore necessary support must be made to improve production.

“This equipment is for all members for the two Tikinas registered and interested to form a cooperative and supported the call to utilise idle land for socio-economic growth,” Mr Bacau said.

Mata ni Tikina Raviravi, Masi Saqanavere said: “The equipment will help us improve our production and our overall plans to form our cooperative.”

Similar sentiments were echoed by Mata ni Tikina Sawau, Atunaisa Tawake who said that the equipment will assist them in their endeavour to form a cooperative.

The farming equipment comprises of:

  • Wheel barrows
  • Spray tanks
  • Chainsaw
  • Nylon roll for greenhouse

In addition

  • The construction of two houses for the two tikinas cooperative costing Government around $51,000
