In a bid to assist development in their province, women from Kadavu organised a fundraising day (soli) at the Carpenters Foreshore in Suva yesterday.

Kadavu Womens Development (KWD) president, Lavenia Yavala said women from the nine districts in Kadavu aimed to raise $50,000.

“The soli (contribution) by the women of Kadavu will be transferred to the village accounts and it will be used to assist in developments like setting up of businesses for our villages. It will contribute towards the provincial scholarship assistance scheme for children of the province wishing to get higher education and other developments which have been laid out in a five-year plan by the Kadavu Provincial Council.

“It will fund development projects within  Kadavu,” Mrs Yavala said.

She said the event also brought together women of Kadavu.

“Today is very special. Some women travelled from Kadavu to be part of this soli and most of us are delighted to meet after a long time.

“Women brought in mats, sasa brooms, coconut oil and other handicrafts to showcase and sell in the fundraising.”

The event ended yesterday.
