Trial Date Set For Nakasi Rape

Full sets of disclosures have been served in the Nakasi rape case.

Ilaitia Nalawa, 31, appeared before Justice Temo for the alleged rape and assault with the intent to rape of the nine-year-old Nakasi girl last month.

The accused faces additional charges of burglary and theft.

DPP lawyer Yogesh Prasad filed and served full phase of information and disclosures in court yesterday.

The accused has been remanded in custody pending trial in December. Trial has been set for December 21-24.

 

Judge rules for a review of charges

High Court in Suva’s judge Justice Priyantha Fernando ruled that charges be corrected and filed in court in relation to the $100-million drug bust.

The files of Nadi businessman Praneel Chandran Reddy and Sosiceni Toa Junior have been consolidated.

The two are charged for a count of importing illicit drugs each, however the court heard that both were charged under different Penal Codes.

Justice Fernando ordered that the charges be corrected as both the charges cannot be made under different Penal Codes.

He said this issue was raised in the previous court sitting however the State failed to make amendments.

Both have been remanded in custody. The case will be called for mention on October 26.
