The controversial Jese Sikivou letter has prompted a call to expel members leaking confidential SODELPA documents and information to the media.

Outspoken SODELPA MP and lawyer Niko Nawaikula made the call in Suva last night, saying he was “totally sick and tired of the continuing leak” to the media.

He confirmed that he had read the contents of the controversial letter in the Fiji Sun.

Mr Nawaikula said he was so concerned that he emailed “all party members and supporters.”

He said he would stand by what he said in the email.

“I am 100 per cent sure of what I posted. I did not get a copy of Jese Sikivou’s letter; I read it in your paper, the Fiji Sun.”

His email said: “I have decided to make my position known publicly to Sodelpa as a party, its members and supporters because I am sick and tired that those attempting to breakup the party have not stopped.

“I did this by way of email to all party members and supporters, a copy is reproduced below”:

The email
“I am putting my view here well aware of where this comment may end because I’m totally sick and tired of the continuing leaks to the media by people I can only assume to be Gaunavinaka and his cohorts. I have limited my request previously to our GS and a relative few and expected good sense will prevail.

“But No, I see Jese Sikivou’s letter, and having read the contents I conclude it is a very very private and confidential letter that’s certainly not meant for the media, again spilled to the media and that’s why I’m putting my view here so you all can see my position.

“I am asking the management board or our leaders to start expelling people who are doing this to the party, party members, executives and MPs alike, immediately as otherwise Sodelpa will be no longer relevant and may as well be dead.

“The choice I feel now is either to expel these people or to kill the party”

The GaunaVinaka he referred to is the mysterious author of a confidential report now subject of an internal party inquiry.

The report, written after an apparent audit of the Opposition Office, is critical of the leadership of Ro Teimumu Kepa, Leader of the Opposition and conduct of Mick Beddoes, the principal administrative officer. It raised issues of governance, finance and relationship between the parliamentary office and the party office.

Contents of the report were published in the Fiji Sun and created a serious split in the party.
Subsequently, five SODELPA MPs led by lawyer Mosese Bulitavu wrote to the management board calling for an inquiry to clear the air. Mr Beddoes then filed a counter-complaint against Mr Bulitavu.

His pro-Ro Teimumu group rubbished the report and wanted it discredited and thrown away because it had been compiled by a mysterious person.

But the issues raised in the report suggested that the audit was conducted internally by a group unhappy with the performance of the Opposition Office.

The fact that the Opposition Office has not publicly refuted the Fiji Sun report has fuelled more speculation.

A board is currently sitting to conduct an inquiry into the report and the official complaints.
Mr Sikivou wrote to the board chairperson Anare Jale and complained about the way Ro Teimumu had been treated.

The party media and liaison officer, writing in his traditional role, claimed the “vanua of Rewa is deeply hurt and disappointed by your cowardly and lowly aspersions and cheap pronouncements and in particular how certain parties have connived to trample and disrespect the traditional chiefly seat of the Roko Tui Dreketi.”

The letter referred to Mr Bulitavu and the other four MPs, Mikaele Leawere, Semesa Karavaki, Aseri Radrodro and Ro Kiniviliame Kiliraki.
