It was a 70th birthday with a difference for Pita Tagicakiverata who celebrated his special day with widows and single parents from Nakasi HART (Housing Assistance and Relief Trust) in Nasinu last Saturday.

The former school principal and former Fiji Secondary School Athletics Association president requested the attendance of the HART residents. He is also a former chairman of the Rewa Provincial Council.

The occasion was also attended by relatives from his village in Vutia, Rewa and fellow members of Navuloa Methodist Church in Nakasi.

His daughter, Miriama, said: “It was our dad’s idea to celebrate his birthday with Nasinu HART residents as special guests and since it was his day, we let him decide everything. We are happy for our father’s decision to celebrate his 70th birthday this way.”

Mr Tagicakiverata is a long time Fijian educator.

He attained Masters of Science in Agricultural Education from Reading University in England.

He was principal of Queen Victoria School from 1994 to 1997 and in 1998 to 2004, was principal of Sila Central High School in Nausori.

“We thank God for the life of our father and for bringing him this far – reaching the golden 70,” Ms Tagicakiverata said.
