Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, Tevita Boseiwaqa, is ready to take over the post of director- general of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific.

The Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, Tevita Boseiwaqa, is ready to take over the post of director- general of the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP).

He completes his Permanent Secretary contract in December and will leave for Dhaka in Bangladesh in June next year.

“I’ll just enjoy my five months leave and I’ll leave for my orientation and handover in June next year,” Mr Boseiwaqa said.

He said he would start as director-general on July 6, 2016.

“It is a four-year contract and it will end in July 2020.”

Mr Boseiwaqa said three were shortlisted and one candidate withdrew just a day before the nomination at the CIRDAR conference in Nadi.

From the 13 votes he got 11 and two went to the Bangladesh candidate.

Members for CIRDAP are Afghanistan, Bangladesh (host State), India, Indonesia, Iran, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam and Fiji (joined as 15th member on June 2010).

Mr Boseiwaqa said his first priority would be to lift CIRDAR to a global level.

He said as Fiji was the only Pacific member country he would persuade other Pacific countries to join.
