Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel is confident his performance in the last four years will help him be re-elected during the annual congress in Ba today.

Former Lautoka FA president Shalendra Prasad is the other nominee for the position.

“It will be a landslide victory for me,” Patel said.

“I’m confident and so are my vice-presidents.

“We changed Fiji Football when we were elected in 2011 and more changes will be made in the next four years.

“We put together the largest sponsorship in history for Fiji FA and the districts have  benefitted from it.

“We also put in people on the judicial body of FIFA and OFC rather than just one person as was the case in the past.

“We’ve four lawyers in OFC judicial committee while Yogeshwar Singh is a member of FIFA social responsibility committee and Samuel Ram is a member of the FIFA Appeal Committee.”

Investment

He said giving funds to the district would be just like buying votes.

“We put money for development in primary schools ($20,000 for IDC), secondary schools ($25,000), youth and women’s football,”he  said.

“Fiji FA finance is healthy and we will present the annual report at the congress. You can’t just allow someone to come and ruin the progress and the good work we have made so far.”

He said the achievement of the Vodafone Fijian Under-20 national team at the FIFA U20 World Cup and Vodafone Fijian U23 qualifying for 2016 Rio Games was a result of right investment.

Contracts

“We are working with Oceania Football Confederation to include players in the Asia Pacific Academy in Christchurch,” he said.

He said a new national coaching director would be named today to take over from Carlos Buzzetti.

Prasad, who was Lautoka president from 2007 to 2013, did not want to comment however wish, Patel the best of luck. Meanwhile, two vice-presidents posts will also be contested by Yogeshwar Singh and Tailevu Naitasiri FA official, Shalendra Roy for the southern seat while current vice president Tarunesh Reddy will be up against former Lautoka FA official Abdul Rafiq for the western seat.
