New Judges Sworn In
The President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, yesterday welcomed two more members to the Fijian judiciary.
Justice Wewage Priyasath Gerard Dep and Justice Sir Brian Richard Keith joined the Fijian judiciary yesterday as judges of the Supreme Court of Fiji.
Justice Dep was appointed as President’s Counsel in 2000 and Solicitor General of Sri Lanka in 2007.
Justice Dep enrolled as Attorney at Law in 1976 and joined the Attorney-General’s Department as a State Counsel in 1978.
The new Supreme Court Judge attained a Master of Arts from University of Colombo, Post Graduate Diploma in International Law from Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in The Hague in Netherlands and Post Graduate Diploma in Forensic Sciences from University of Colombo.
Justice Dep served the AG’s Department for more than 33 years with distinction of being the head of both civil and criminal divisions. He was appointed Judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2011 which is the highest and final superior Court of record in Sri Lanka.
Justice Keith attained his Bachelor of Arts Honors in Law from Lincoln College, Oxford in 1966 and attended John F Kennedy Fellow, Harvard Law School in 1967.
He was admitted to the Bar in 1968 and practiced as a barrister specialising in employment law and judicial review.
Justice Keith served as Judge of the High Court in Hong Kong from 1991 to 1997 and Judge of the High Court of England and Wales from 2001 to 2014.
