Let Us Eradicate HIV/AIDS
Let us work towards eradicating HIV/AIDS and let us not be too complacent and ignorant, says the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
Ratu Epeli was speaking during the Presidential Thanksgiving Ceremony at Vunimono Hall in Nausori yesterday.
He challenged youths to help eradicate HIV/AIDS as he saw that most of the confirmed cases of HIV/AIDS involved young people.
“The most affected groups are between the ages of 14 – 29 years and 30 – 39 years and they are known as youth groups; these groups are the most sexually active.
The most vulnerable and the bulk of the education and working population are from these two age groups,” he said.
Ratu Epeli said the pattern for HIV/AIDS on youths was the same all over the world and it never changed.
“That was why youths became my main target and other age groups too were targeted,” he said.
Mr Nailatikau said secondary school students fitted the youth category and so he started school visits.
“During those school visits we came across a lot of parents who came to be part of the assembly which made it easier for me to send the message across,” he said.
“We have to talk about HIV/AIDS to the family groups as it affects the whole family,” he said.
Mr Nailatikau said some countries had the worst records simply because they ignored the warnings and signs,” he said.
