Switzerland’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency Mr David Vogelsanger paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police Ben Groenewald at the Fiji Police Headquarters in Laucala Beach Estate yesterday afternoon.

The visit is the first for the Ambassador since taking up his posting.

Upon arrival, Mr Vogelsanger was accorded a quarter guard before holding bilateral talks with the Commissioner of Police and members of his inner core consisting of senior officers.

Director International Affairs Superintendent of Police Ulaiasi Ravula said the Ambassador’s visit was significant as it showed Fiji’s strong standing with major European nations.

“His Excellency’s decision to visit the Fiji Police Force augurs well with Government’s strategic focus of forging working relations with nations beyond the perimeters of our usual partners”.

Issues discussed were possible areas of cooperation on matters pertaining to security.

“What affects them affects us so this is a great way to explore ways of strengthening areas of law enforcement both countries”.

With Fiji’s geographical location as the hub of the Pacific, SP Ravula said we were forging strong working relations with major European nations and this was an area the Fiji Police Force would look to capitalize on.

“Today’s visit will also be in line with our strategic focus to align ourselves with other top police jurisdictions so we are hopeful of attaining positive outcomes of the bilateral talks for the benefit of officers serving in the Fiji Police and the nation as a whole”.

Mr Vogelsanger departed the Fiji Police Headquarters after discussions with the Commissioner and his senior members.
