Schools across the country celebrated Fiji Day yesterday.

Students were dressed in blue and participated in entertainment and activities marking Fiji’s Independence since 1970.

Schools in Nausori and Nasinu were part of the celebration.

Dilkusha Girls School headteacher Emali Qarau said Fiji Day was a special annual event celebrated by Fijians here and abroad.

“The school added three other special events to the celebration and they were World Children’s Day, World Teacher’s Day and Cultural Day. They made the celebration more special for students and teachers,” Mrs Qarau said.

“We are grateful to the parents who supported us to make this a memorable celebration.”

The 940 students of Dilkusha were treated to lunch and ice cream by the school management and teachers. Nausori District School assistant headteacher Joana Delanimati said: “This day is quite peculiar than other days as we remember the country’s progress in the past four decades.”

Other schools like Rishikul Primary in Nasinu and Vuci Methodist Primary at Vuci Road, Nausori, also marked the special day.
