Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ peacekeepers serving under the United Nations Dis-engagement Observers Force (UNDOF) celebrated Fiji Day at Camp Ziouani.

The parade was reviewed by UNDOF’s Chief of Staff Colonel Ro Jone Kalouniwai.

Event guests included staff officer of various contingents serving alongside the Fiji battalion, UNDOF’s civilian staff and Fijians visiting Israel.

Colonel Kalouniwai reminded the First Battalion Fiji Infantry Regiment (1FIR) troops to consider all the struggles that Fiji has gone through in the past in order to work towards a better future for generation to come.

“Every year on this special day, we are reminded of our nation’s past together with the struggle of our forefathers who have enabled Fiji to achieve what it has today.

“Today is a time to look forward to our future. With all the great things Fiji has been experiencing over the past few years, I strongly believe we are on the right direction of achieving even greater things not only for the RFMF, but for the nation as a whole,” Colonel Kalouniwai said.

He also reminded the troops the importance of working as a peacekeeper and the responsibilities which had to be fulfilled during the one year mission.

The Fiji Day celebration ended with performances of various traditional items and a feast prepared by the members of the Fiji battalion.
