A Fijian delegation led by Opposition Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa met with Timor Leste Prime Minister Dr Rui Maria de Araujo.

According to a Facebook post by Opposition MP Salote Radrodro, Dr Araujo spoke to them about women empowerment and development.

The delegation consisted of Ro Teimumu, Mrs Radrodro, Assistant Minister for Health Veena Bhatnagar and Government MP Jilila Kumar.

The delegation attended the Annual Women Leader’s Exchange Programme and was also part of the first meeting of the Pacific Islands Women Caucus last Monday.

“In his address he shared the high regards East Timor holds for its women and Government’s commitment to their empowerment and development as reflected in the electoral and political party law reforms which has resulted in the current 25 Women parliamentarians,” Mrs Radrodro posted on Facebook.

“Even though Timor Leste gained Independence much, much later than Fiji they have made bigger progress in number of women in Parliament.”
