Members of the Valelevu Methodist Church in Nasinu celebrated Valelevu Day last Saturday to fundraise for their new church currently under construction.

The church’s building committee chairman, Pita Nasiro, said they had targeted $20,000 during the one-day fundraising drive through the church’s four cell groups however they raised a lot more.

They were able to raise $42,413. The funds will be used for the remaining construction phases.

The church construction began in May last year with an estimated cost of $400,000. He said more than a third of the work has been done.

“We were intending to finish it by December this year but because of some financial constraints it has been delayed. We are fundraising this on our own without any aid so it is a bit hard along the way,” Mr Nasiro said.

The church, he said, serves more than 200 methodists living around Valelevu in Nasinu.

Meanwhile, its church members yesterday performed a ‘meke’ and other traditional dances as part of their fundraising.
