Government backbencher Balmindar Singh has welcomed the allocation of $2million for the digital literacy programme.
Addressing Parliament yesterday Mr Singh said digital literacy was necessary today and commended the Government for its sensible and progressive move to push for its use as an educational tool.
He said the manner in which children learned and how people accessed information had changed dramatically since the blackboard was invented in the 1700s.
“If we are to realistically compete in this ever-changing world, we must move with the times,” he said.
“Some may say we cannot afford to implement such an ambitious programme. But the reality is that what we cannot afford to do, is to let our children lag so far behind the tide of progress and development.”
