Threats by parents demanding that their child attend certain schools was raised yesterday in Ba.

Parents gave inexcusable reasons that their child could commit suicide if their demands were not met, it was said.

However, the Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy warned that the ministry would not be dictated by such actions.

“The ministry will not be blackmailed by parents in regards to the school zoning policy,” he told people who turned up at Ba Sangam Primary School for the education forum there.

“These kind of blackmailing won’t work with us,” he said.

“Parents are coming to us dictating that they want their child in a particular school and they are threatening saying their child will commit suicide.

“Our job is to provide a school nearest to the home and that’s what we are going to do.”
He said the ministry could not afford to build infrastructure at a school near.
