Westfield Dragons prop Masivesi Dakuwaqa is grateful after being included in the Vodafone Fijians 7s extended squad.
Coach Ben Ryan included Dakuwaqa, Wardens rover Filipo Daugunu and Josua Vili Goneduadua of Uluinakau after the Bayleys Coral Coast Sevens.

The 21-year old Dakuwaqa joined the Nadi based club four months ago.

“To be honest I was shocked, I didn’t expect it at all when Master (Epeli Lagiloa) told me that the Vodafone 7s team management have approached him,” he said.

“First of all I want to thank the Almighty for this opportunity and my coach Lagiloa for his guidance and fatherly advice. I’m lucky to be part of Westfield Dragons and I must thank my teammates for their support in the last four months”.

The Cakova, Moala, Lau native said he was ready to step up.

“It means the world to me. It is a huge boost for me as a player moving forward. It’s my dream to wear that white jersey and this is the first step towards that. It won’t be easy because of the talent in the current squad but I’m ready to give my best. It means so much to me and my family,” said Dakuwaqa

While Dakuwaqa was stunned with the news, his mentor Lagiloa was not surprised.

“The tournament itself is off high magnitude and those that standout is very clear and the decision by Ben Ryan came as no surprise to me because I understand Masi, a very dedicated, religious person,” he said. “Ryan told me the news on Friday. This is the path France-based player Josaia Raisuqe Wini follows when he was with me for four months. I’m very happy that Ryan is selecting another player from the our club.”

He is scheduled to march into camp this Tuesday. Edited by Osea Bola
