The Fiji team arrived last night after representing Fiji in the Australian Deaf Games in Adelaide, Australia last week.

The team won 35 medals out of which 13 were gold, five silver and 15 bronze medals.

The assistant Minister for Youth and Sports Iliesa Delana applauded the team for a job well done and making Fiji proud.

“Fiji and the disabled community are very proud and the Government will be always support you,” Delana said.

“I will always be there supporting you all so that we can keep the same momentum and enthusiasm for future competitions.”

Delana said the Australian Deaf Game is one of the many qualifying rounds for the Asia Pacific Competition and the National Games that would be held in Fiji in November this year to help them qualify and   strive for their personal best.

“We will sit with the Fijian National Sports Commission and we will all come together for the planning of the 2017 Deaf Olympic Games,” he said.

“We are looking forward to 2017 and from now onwards the Government will be working together with the Fiji Association of the Deaf.

“There are plans and programmes that would be conducted in Fiji which would help everyone.”

The team which comprised of 29 athletes returned home yesterday afternoon feeling proud and emotional about their achievement.
