A Dee Cees bus carrying passengers caught fire at Ratu Mara Road in Samabula late yesterday afternoon. However no one was injured in the incident.

Bystander Hussein Ali of Suva said the bus was carrying more than 10 people.

He said they saw the bus park at the bus stop and the driver quickly ushered the passengers out as smoke started coming out of the bus.

“The fire started in the engine box and spread to most of the bus; luckily it was contained,” Mr Ali said.

He said the shop building beside the bus stop was also damaged by the bus fire.

Dee Cees Buses general manager Temo Chand said the bus would be taken to the Land Transport Authority (LTA) for inspection.

The Dee Cees bus has 84 buses running on our roads at the moment.

The National Fire Authority are presently doing their own investigations.
