PM Thanks Indonesia For Cyclone Winston Assistance

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says assistance provided by various countries like the $10.38 million (US$5million) given by the Republic of Indonesia in the aftermath of Tropical Cyclone Winston will go a long way. Speaking during the cheque handover by the visiting Indonesian Co-ordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Luhut Pandjaitan, the Prime Minister said Fiji was thankful for the continued support by Indonesia.
“This will go a long way in assisting those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston and I want to acknowledge the support we continue to receive from Indonesia,” he said.
Mr Pandjaitan extended the Indonesian President and its people’s condolences to Fiji in the aftermath of the devastation caused by Cyclone Winston.
“It is a great honour to visit your country and a trade delegation from Indonesia will also be visiting Fiji soon,” he told Prime Minister Bainimarama. The donation, that will be part of the Prime Minister’s Relief and Rehabilitation Fund, will be to assist work done as aid in kind, deployment of a company of engineering corps and for the reconstruction and rehabilitation works.
Mr Pandjaitan, who arrived in Fiji last night, is on a one-day visit to Fiji and had several engagements including a visit to the Minister for Agriculture, Maritime and Rural Development and National Disaster Management Office, Inia Seruiratu.
He also met with Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.
