Former Wallaby Radike Samo will feature as part of the Brisbane-Nadi side in the 29th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s at Prince Charles Park in Nadi this weekend.

The Brisbane-Nadi side is coached by former national 7s rep Samisoni Rabaka laced with Tubinai Turaga (utility), and Wilisoni Tilagucaguca who has links to Vanuabalavu in Lau.

Samo, a Narewa, Nadi, native returned for the first time to train at the Ratu Navula College ground yesterday.

“I have played there (Nawaka 7s) before going overseas when I was young. This time we try to form the team in Brisbane as the Brisbane Nadi to come to Fiji to play and it is good experience as some of them have not played in the Nawaka 7s. We are here to do something different,” Samo said.

The 39-year-old has also picked local players from Korovuto, Yavusania, Dratabu and Narewa to be part of the team.

“This is a start and we would come back to play in Saunaka 7s, Nawaka and Marist 7s next year.”

Former Nadi and national reps such as Opeti Turuva, Solo Rasolea, Serupepeli Tuvuca are also part of the team.

“It is good to be back at home. I want to play some footy at home before hanging my boots,” Samo said.

He said the competition this weekend will be tough with the Fijian flair an inspiring attributes of rugby. Brisbane Nadi lost to Tabadamu in the Darwin 7s final this year.

“To play with the local boys is always tough. Playing 7s in Fiji is always tough; you have to play the full game. Everyone knows it is tough and the boys love to throw the ball around.”
