Relief is how a Tailevu resident farmer says he feels after a key road he uses daily to convey vegetables to the Nausori market is finally getting the attention it deserves.

Located 2.7km southeast off Naqali in Tailevu is Savu Road, which is also an access route to Muaniweni College.

Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) is currently grading three kilometres of that thoroughfare followed by resheeting gravel on the graded surface. A roller will then be used to firmly settle the gravel.

Farmer Pranesh Navindatt said the graded stretch had not been worked on for more than seven years.

Big trucks and rain, he said, had ruined the road with potholes and loose gravel.

“As a farmer it became hard for me to take produce to the Nausori market.

“On rainy days the road floods and gets really muddy making it hard for students travelling to Muaniweni College.

“I thank the team from Fulton Hogan Hiways for seeing the importance of this road for our children and farmers,” Mr Navindatt added.

To ease future incidences of water-clogging, the FHH work crew on site is improving the road’s drainage.

FHH Naqali depot supervisor, Joe Qere, is adamant that the upgrade will alleviate any travelling distress previously brought on by loose gravel, potholes, and overall dusty and bumpy rides on Savu road.

Close to 200 families living along the upgraded 3km-stretch will also benefit from the FHH roadwork’s.

FHH is working closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to provide road maintenance for the Central, Eastern, and Northern divisions.
