The University of the South Pacific has advised its students and staff of the changes in the academic year of 2016 after the interruption of the running of the campuses during Tropical Cyclone Winston.

All USP campuses throughout Fiji were closed on February 19 before Tropical Cyclone Winston hit the next day.

As the result of the damage suffered in certain areas of the campuses, classes had to be cancelled from February 22 till March 1.

The semester one academic timetable has been extended by a week extra to adjust in line with fee payment, assessments and exams.

The semester break is reduced to three weeks and the semester II will start on July 11.

USP Vice Chancellor and president Professor Rajesh Chandra said: “We did not start the year well and because of the scale and effect of Tropical Cyclone Winston everyone has been affected adversely.

“The changes in dates will allow students to resume their studies as per normal routine.”
