The reward of a thing well done is to have done it yourself.

This reference came true for a Nadi based businessman and veteran mechanic Vijay Singh, 54 when he restored an automobile which took him two years in the process to build a car model called the 1969 Triumph Herald 13/60 (Classic British Car).

“I had to modify with Datsun A12 engine, which was fully rebuilt with custom parts, as we had difficulties in finding the original engine.

“The whole enterprise cost me around $25,000 as it’s an antique and its price less to me.”

According to Mr Singh, the vehicle was given to him free of charge by Shaista Shameem.

“It was of no use to her as I got it through advertisement which I was very thankful to her,” he said.

“It took me almost two years as it was a hobby which I used to work on during my spare time and with the help of my employees, my friends and families aboard, I was able to restore this yellow antique car.”

Mr Singh said: “This is not the first time I have worked on such a car.

“I have also worked on cars namely Holden HK model and plus Indian jeep Mahindra.

“It was during the first coup in Fiji as you all know it was a very hard life those days.

“So I had to sell them for family survival as I was the only breadwinner.”
