Five overseas based- players for Paris and London tournaments

Vodafone Fijian 7s head coach Ben Ryan has revealed five overseas based- players are expected to join them for the last leg of the 2015/16 World Sevens Series.

In his interview with World Rugby, Ryan said the five players are currently playing in the United Kingdom and France and are expected to join his side as he continues to assess players for the Olympic Games in August.

“There are five overseas boys that are playing over in the UK and France and they will have a run out in the next leg in London and Paris,” he said.

“These players are world class players and if they show they got some ability to be in the Olympic training camp then we will go toe-to-toe. Then we will come out with the final twelve.”

Resting and recovering, Ryan says, is paramount for the team.

“You get injuries now- one to two month injuries you putting players at risk. I wanted a local based team, we are almost there but we will be testing the overseas based players.”

The head coach said almost 20 players are vying for a spot for Rio.

Ryan also indicated that he wants a win on his former home ground in London. “Personally I want to go to London and win that and we finish high with the boys and go to the Olympics,” he added.
