Flamboyant Rewa football striker Iosefo Verevou is the 2015 Fiji Tattslotto Sportsman of the Year while Molly Esther scooped the Sportswoman of the Year award.

Verevou is one of Fiji’s rising football stars playing crucial roles not only for his district Rewa but also for the Vodafone Fijian Under-20 team at the FIFA U20 World Cup. He later represented the Vodafone Fijian U23 that qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It was after a lapse of 28 years, that a Fiji FA nominee has scooped the Sportsman of the Year award. The last football player was the legendary defender cum striker Abraham Watkins in 1988.

Fiji appeared for the first time in the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand and 20-year-old Verevou is the first Fijian to score a goal at the world event in their game against football giants Germany.

Verevou has come through for the Delta Tigers on a number of occasions; he scored the second goal in the finals of the 2015 INNK Mobile Battle of the Giants (BOG) tournament against Ba at Ratu Cakobau Park helping his side claim their seventh title last year. He was part of the touring team to Spain and is looking to book a place in the final squad to the Rio Olympic Games in August this year.

Esther of Special Olympics Fiji scooped a gold medal at the 2015 Special Olympic World Games in Los Angeles, United States in July last year. The 16-year-old won gold in the 100 metres and javelin, silver in the 4×100 metres relay and was awarded gold in the Unified Bocce which is an Italian ball sport similar to lawn bowls. Fiji has created history at the 2015 Special Olympic World Games by winning two gold medals, the second going to Abdul Shariff who won gold in the 400 metres.
