The opening clash of the Vodafone Senior League (Northern Zone) competition between Seaqaqa and Taveuni ended in a scoreless draw at Subrail Park, Labasa on Friday night.

Seaqaqa coach Mukesh said the wet ground condition affected their game.

“If it was on a fine day we would have scored more goals,” he said.

“Most of the players got injured because of continuous rain throughout the match. The ground condition deteriorated as the players couldn’t kick or even pass the ball. Nevertheless, I am happy that our players tried their best and we did not lose the match.”

Taveuni coach Nar Deo also said he was happy with the draw.

“We did not do any preparation for this match because the players were busy rebuilding their houses which were destroyed by Cyclone Winston.

“As soon as we received the confirmation of this match, I immediately contacted the available players and made our travel arrangements. If we had trained surely we would have won this match,” he added.

The bad weather has also forced the cancellation of the remaining matches.
