Acting Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Timoci Natuva yesterday encouraged university students to be taught entrepreneurial skills for the creation of employment.

He said this would make them more enterprising in creating employment rather than waiting to be employed,

Mr Ratuva said this while speaking at the launch of the five-day University of the South Pacific SP 2016 Entrepreneurial and Careers Fair at its Laucala campus in Suva.

“This fair would create an opportunity for students to listen to presentations from invited professionals and participate in small business incubation workshops in the hope of enhancing the creation of small businesses of their own,” Mr Natuva said.

He congratulated USP as the initiative complemented the Government’s overall efforts to create employment opportunities.

“This is an area in which Government fully endorses, which is the creation of small micro-enterprise projects thus creating more employment,” Mr Natuva said.

The fair will be held from April 18-22 and the programme will include lunch-time seminars on career choices, presentations on starting your own business as well as employer exposition with 60 top employers in the country taking part.

There will also be job seeking skills workshops for graduating students to make them more competitive in the employment market as well as small business incubator workshops to help students create entrepreneurial enterprises.
